Think Stargate hybrid meets Green Lantern and through in King Author just because you can and you get a feel for this story. Was was hooked from beginning till end and even behind that! This is a must read for young and old.
I enjoyed reading this book and hope the next one comes out on time, if you enjoyed stargate or the green lantern you will enjoy this book instead of rings there are vambraces and that is all I will give away try it at the worst you will have spent a few hours reading about another planet, marines, and griffins! Who doesn't like griffins
This is not a deep book, but it does not pretend to be. It's a FUN book. Read it in one sitting, though I had other things to do. Have purchased the other three books in the series, and intend to start on book 2 this weekend. That I am not starting now may give you a clue, because I expect to get sucked in and read straight through again. And I can't afford that on a work day. Another reviewer described this book as a combination of Green Lantern and Stargate with a little King Arthur thrown in. I cannot think of a better description.
Interesting... yes.Fun.... yes.Shallow.... sadly yes.And yet, I enjoyed it. There is no depth to the characters and the story itself seemed to be a teenagers fan-fic of Stargate, combined with more than a few fantasies of being a military superhero.But it somehow works despite the weak and obvious plot. There are no surprises, but the main character was endearing enough to keep me interested in what was a very short and quick read.
A gate has opened to another universe. The military is trying to determine the risk and what lays on the other side of the breach... so into the breach a team goes... Drones have been sent, but they have not returned. What is found is a world with breathable air, a fight going on of it's own, and friends and foes.... The team explores and works to return home throughout the book....This book is a mix between scifi, magic, and some mystery.... and leaves the story hanging with the mystery of what's to come!
Yanez does a very credible job developing his own version of a star gate that takes the first inter-galactic space marines clear across our galaxy into a totally new galaxy. Our adventurous team is in the battle for their lives and the rest of the galaxy from the Lord of Chaos!Yanez does a great job developing all the characters and their backstories. The hero of this exciting series, Frank, faces such a diversified group of advisaries that his survival is literally by his strength of will. The alien creatures are spectacular and easily believable in their existance. We just bought the second book in the series thanks to the couple of chapters included at the end of this book.We gladly award this book 4 stars.
This was just a fun read. Not too heavy, not too silly, but nestled comfortably right in the middle. Just right for a relaxing evening on the sofa with your feet up or a warm summer afternoon in the hammock. I love authors who don’t take themselves too seriously, and I can’t help but get the feeling that Jonathan and J.R. would be fun to hang out with. As of this writing, I’ve read 3 more of their books and have yet to be disappointed.
The lead-in looks predictable, but it is NOT. What follows is much better. We get intrigue, romance, hero, surprise, and many opportunities for bigger plots. The surprise ending is great. Do not read it dirt as not only will it fail to make sense but it will lessen the impact. I've already bought this and prr-ordered the next.
