You need to be Jewish to really appreciate this book. Some of these I heard as a kid when our family would get together, and some are from the old Jewish comedians I grew up listening to. If you are not Jewish, these are great that will definitely make you laugh. It just will probably not be a side splitting, Uncle Morris told that one, since you probably didn't grow up with old Jews! Laughter is the spice of living a great life and staying healthy. My husband, who is Jewish and I went on vacation with some of his cousins and his sister and her husband. Every day, at breakfast and during the day we would pull this book out and we'd randomly ope n to a page and read a joke. We would roar with laughter and disrupt the whole restaurant. We did this every day and had the best time together. We gifted each with this book and they took it home with them to share the laughter and the love. A little academic in spots but a fascinating history of how gay men and women did their part during WWII. The official discrimination they faced was inconsistent certainly, with many officers looking the other way if they were pulling their weight and others going out of their way to "bust the queers". Regardless of your personal attitudes towards the gay community, the part they played in helping to win the war cannot be discounted.

I'm an author and read this while doing research for a novel. My eyes were opened. While gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans volunteered, and died in the service to our country during WWII, they were, for the most part, systematically discriminated against and treated with dishonesty, humiliation and psychological abuse.Sometimes mere accusations with no proof were enough to drum a member out of our armed forces depriving them of rights and the GI Bill benefits. To make it worse, their draft boards were told and work got around in civilian life that they were unfit. In that era, after the war, the lack of an honorable discharge often cast such a dark shadow that many couldn't find work.For those who believe being gay is a choice and a sin I disagree with you. I ask if you truly believe that or if you are doing a knee-jerk reaction to poison ideas implanted in you.This story is history, and you won't read of it in standard history books. Discrimination is discrimination is wrong. The pledge of allegiance ends: "with liberty and justice for all."

I had no idea so many gay folks served and found ways to have their own subculture right under the noses of a government that would blue-slip them out of the Army if they were caught. Such an important book in this current administration.

this is an excellent book, revealing a bit of history that I am sure very few are aware. I thought is was well written and factual; the characters in this book are what they are and it was interesting to hear their point of view of a situation they bascily had no control over, being drafted into military service. If anything this helps give a presepctive as to why the military has acted the way they have when it comes to gay and lesbian service members. These individuals showed great courage and charater as their stories unfold. Well worth the read.

I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. I was so looking forward to it based on the reviews and the subject matter. I am an avid WWII history buff, and couldn't wait to read about what it was like to be gay not only in the service at that time, but just during that era. The book was very good. Very interesting and enlightening. But I found it extremely repetitive. Each chapter could have been half the length and still effectively told the story. He also repeatedly used the same phrases to describe various situations. I often found myself losing interest as chapters went on, though I enjoyed what I read up to that point. Overall though, well worth the purchase and the read. It could have just been half the length.

I wish it had more individual stories

Since I have read many books like this one, I didn't rate it as 5 stars because there are so many books out there on this subject, and some are even better than this book is, in my opinion. There are many biblical references in the book, so that is very helpful. Possibly if I had read this author's first book, I might have rated this book even higher.

Such a great book and idea. I found TKRP at just the right time for me. I was hurting physically and mentally and was searching for ways to not only make myself better and happier but to try and help others in some small way too. I love this idea. I’ve been following Kindness Rocks for a while, it was exactly what I needed to help turn around my increasingly cynical view of the world a few years back. Just ordered a couple more to give as gifts.

I have this book on a table where I sit to watch TV and often pick it up and just turn to a random page and I always find some thought-filled painted stone looking at me, which had just the message I could relate to. I recommend everyone purchase this book, as you will really enjoy looking at it and reading the content.

I started following the Kindness Rocks Project and painting my own rocks in 2016. I've loved it ever since and started my own group in my home town. Last summer I had the opportunity to meet Megan Murphy at an art exhibit on Cape Cod as well as other talented artists who have taken on the project. I am a second year medical student in California. I have recently boarded the struggle bus that is neuroanatomy. I have never taken neuroanatomy prior to medical school, and to say its overwhelming is an understatement. Another note - I own the Haines Atlas(9th E), this text, FA, and Firecracker. Professional students have a limited budget and need to find the most high yield resources. This is the one.I never usually buy textbooks because they suck. This is the anti-textbook. It actually is designed to be read, in order, and it is engaging, relevant, and interesting. The pictures are bomb. It constantly checks your understanding, references other section of the text (THAT MAKE SENSE AND ARE RELEVANT), and everything is clinically relevant. Finally, a book written by a clinician for clinicians, not researchers or academics. Purchase it. Read it. See how it effortlessly owns all other texts and actually pushes you to GET neuroanatomy to HELP PATIENTS, not uselessly memorize that the trigeminal system has 4 nuclei, or that there are 5 descending motor tracts, or remember some research extraneous bullcrap that fills the volume of much of our medical textbooks.Dr. Blumenfeld, if you are listening, can you make a trip to California to school your colleagues about how to write clinically oriented organ systems based texts and teaching materials?

Book is very well written, easy to follow, very clinically oriented as the title suggests. It does not have the details of a full neuroscience textbook the way the Purves or Kandel books do. As a medical student you need the more detailed neuroscience part also. Still, this is the 'go to' book for clinical explanations in neurology/neuroanatomy. What I don't like about this book has to do with the publisher, not the book: After paying over a hundred Dollars for the book you only get two years of online access, after that they want you to pay an extra $30 for additional two year access, seems like a rip off.

Great text to accompany the medical school Neurology block - although I would caution against reading the chapters word-for-word as it can be time-consuming and ultimately provide much more info than is necessary. I referenced this book whenever a concept or term came up in my studies that my lecture notes or a simple google search were unable to fully answer. Each chapter also includes practice clinical vignettes and questions that I frequently used to test my knowledge of the concepts.

This is such a great book; if you are thinking about it, just go ahead and buy it already. The case reviews are awesome; helps the material stick. Graphics are good quality and helpful. It was super helpful in residency, I still use it now. Great refresher on anatomy.

A good resource for medical school neuroanatomy. My school recommends the Nolte textbook, which is also good, but has limited clinical associations. For me, tying anatomy and physiology into clinical scenarios is super important in learning the material. Blumenfield's clinical concepts and cases for each chapter really hit on the relevance of each part of neuroanatomy in a memorable fashion. My point of concern is the length of chapters can be daunting, especially during medical school, so unless you thoroughly enjoy reading textbooks like me, it may be difficult to balance lectures, assigned reading, and supplemental reading from this text.

This is an awesome book. I have read about half of it and don't have much time to read the other half right now. I cannot wait to finish it. I know i will have this at my side long after i finish it as it is a great reference

Great book for learning and understanding neuroanatomy. Teaches (as the title suggests) through clinical cases in order to illustrate the concepts. Neurology is all about localizing the lesion, and this is a great book to learn how to do just that.

The seller shipped the book quickly. The book is broken into chapters. It is an easy read based on historical fiction. It was engaging for my daughter. She enjoyed learning about the Wright Brothers from the perspective of a child that was watching and interacting with them. I like that this story encourages kids to keep trying even when they are not successful on their first few attempts. This was a significant event in American history. I love that it has been written on a level that a first or second grade child can fluently read.

Great Wright Brothers book with history and some adventure as well. My 7 year old grandson loved it!

I ordered this for my 12-year-old who needed to read a bio for a class (he's an avid soccer fan). He's only about a third into it and feels that it is not great. There are facts, but not strung together well. ("Mom, this is not well-written at all" was his review). Just his opinion...maybe someone else would differ and really like it....

I first read this book to my 6th grade class in 1963. They loved it! I have recommended it to several reading groups. Jean Pierre Hallet made a life long impression on me with his autobiography.

Finishes out my collection of his books.

Jean-Pierre Hallet was an amazing man and larger then life adventurer. He confronted the realities of life in the Belgian Congo in the 1950s and 60s with courage, fascination and reforming zeal. He tells his story with remarkable frankness to the point where there many occasions that I wondered whether this was all for real. He confronted racist colonial administrators, suspicious revolutionaries and leopards with the same steely gaze and sang froid. He earned the trust of local communities who had experienced the roughest treatment of colonialists, but who respected his deep humanity and courage. This simply extra-ordinary book will remain in my mind for a long, long time.

The exploits of this man were almost superhuman. His ability to step inside the heads of tribesmen and a wide variety of animals is astounding and insightful. He provides insight into African mindsets and culture I'm still processing. I'd call this a must read if you are interested in exceptional exploits or wish for insight into African cultures.

This is an absolutely knockout true-life adventure in Africa. Jean-Pierre Hallet tells of 12 action-packed years among the tribes of Africa. He became blood-brother to the tall "Watusi" and the warrior Masai, joined the Bwane Secret Society, lived among cannibals, and went on to share the life of the Congo Pygmies. Hallet was taught the art of killing a lion with a spear by the Masai. Does he succeed? You'll have to read the book to find out. One of the great African adventure books told by a man who lived an incredible life. First Hardcover version was 1964.

The authors in this book are staking their claim to its legal issues. But just being the first to a topic does not mean you have anything interesting to say about it. Castronova's work is interesting, but you don't need this book to understand it. The remaining essays in this book reminded me of cyber-squatted domain names. "What will happen?" they all seem to ask, but they don't offer many answers or even interesting speculations.The real problem here is that law exists to deal with real-world consequences, while virtual worlds exist to eliminate them. Law may eventually get some traction in virtual reality, but it hasn't happened yet. If you want to be there when it does, don't read a law book - get yourself into a MMPORG. I bought this in conjunction with the Best of Genus 1-6. Since none of the newer versions have as many questions as the original, I thought this would be a good way to give us some extra questions. We've had a great time with it so far.

This soft-bound book is exactly what it looks like. Hundreds of pages of TP formatted questions and answers. I was looking for science questions to use for my class and these cover such a wide variety, it is amazing. It's the TP without the board game! I have the kids form teams and use buzzers to give it a real "science bowl" type feeling and they love it! Some of the questions/answers will be for those out of high school, but there are enough science questions to entertain my high schoolers. If you like TP, want a portable version, without the actual board game? This is what you want. Great value for the price.

We still have the game boards but some of the cards are no longer relevant. This gives us a good alternative for questions.

I work in and Assisted Living Facility, I am using this book for one of my activities. The residents are loving it!

I bought this for a roadtrip and it was perfect for keeping the family entertained. The answers are on the back of each page so the reader can play along.

This is a fun, partible trivia activity to use alone or with a group. If you're with family or friends and you don't want to drag out the Trivial Pursuit board, cards and pegs, you can just read the questions in the book and test each other's trivia knowledge. It's stimulating, educational and would be enjoyed by any trivia fan. It's portable, easy to use when traveling. Take a litle trivia break at work, in traffic jams or when socializing with friends. I highly recommend it. You can also use the questions in the book in conjunction with your Trivia game board if you like.
