'The Busy Writers' Tips on Writing Mystery' describes every step of the journey to write a book that will draw readers in and not let them go until the last page. Marg McAlister builds her ebook like a good mystery, starting with the characters, how to generate plot ideas, clues and red herrings, keeping the reader on the edge of the seat, conflict, point of view, building suspense and so on.  I especially like the internal links within the book that lead to more information on a particular topic, e.g.  5 Ideas for Plot Twists, Turning Points in a Novel. The difference between this book and others I've read is the attention to the 'how to'. Both novice writers and those with some writing experience will benefit from the excellent advice this ebook contains. In fact, so convinced am I by Marg's advice I'm going back to re-write the ending of my latest mystery story for children.Â

Marg McAlister's latest book in the Busy Writer series, THE BUSY WRITER'S TIPS ON MYSTERY AND CRIME is an excellent roadmap for authors, new or established. I have read it through twice already and plan to use it for all of my plotting/planning from now on!It is beautifully written in a conversational style, easy to read with clear explanations and examples to follow.I have most of Marg's Busy Writer series already and find them indispensable, but this one is even better than I expected. Thank you Marg for making our writing lives a pleasure!

I've nearly finished reading this book, but already it's prompted so many thoughts and ideas how I can improve the romantic suspense novel I'm working on, that I've already gone back to the beginning to re-read and write notes for the points I need to work on. Marg covers many good questions to ask yourself about your characters and plot with ideas like creating a table of all your characters to brainstorm how they can come into conflict with each other and whether that conflict adds to the story by creating a sub-plot or complication your hero has to contend with.Well worth the price.

Who dunnit? Who dun wot? The butler? How did he do it? Why? Motive? Red herrings? We all love a rattling good yarn involving murder, mystery and mayhem and we're busting to write one. We nurture a sizzler deep inside us, we have it all worked out ... but how to get it onto the page? Our novel must be believable, convincing, structurally and procedurally sound and, above all, gripping. We want our reader to be on tenterhooks - we don't want to give too much away too soon.Trust Marg McAlister to come to the party with the latest in her The Busy Writer's series, Tips on Writing Mystery and Crime. She's done it again, another winner. My tip to those embarking on their first Who Dunnit? Don't pick up a pen until you have devoured this beaut little tool. You'll be so glad you did.

I have most of Marg's books, and the ones I don't have I am planning to get. Marg has a knack of teaching concepts and making them easily understood, and this book is no different. I am currently working on a novel in this genre and after reading this book I have went back through what I have written and seen where I could apply things covered in the book to my writing. I am never too proud to say I can't learn new things. If you are a serious writer of mystery and crime, invest in your career and pick up this book.

This is a great reference book, written plainly and to the point. Ms. McAlister gives the author an abundance of information packed in a few pages that are easy to flip to when needed, from the handy table of contents. I would highly recommend this book to any author that wants to write mystery and crime fiction, especially the beginner. It helped me considerably on my work in progress, and I highly recommend it to others.

The price is right andthe book is full of excellent tips from an experienced writer. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much information was included. The section that I think is especially good is the one on how and where to find ideas to get yourself started. She's included several checklists and I don't know about you but I love checklists. :-)For $3.99 there's no way you can go wrong.

I have just finished reading Marg McAlister's 'Tips on Writing Mystery and Crime' and for the first time I think I could actually write in this genre. Marg's step by step advice on how to develop characters, plot, structure and nail biting suspense (and much more), is practical, clear and reader friendly.Marg is an experienced and talented author who obviously and genuinely wants to share her writing craft and who understands what beginning writers need to help them on their writing path. And it's a great resource for all writers, no matter how experienced.'Tips on Writing Mystery and Crime' is the latest book in the Busy Writers Series and a book I'll be referring to time and time again. I'm on a mission now to collect all of the Busy Writers books. Thanks Marg for all the knowledgeable advice so generously given in this book.
